Can ChatGPT or Claude Send a Fax For Me?

Yes. An AI assistant can help you prepare a fax. You review the document and fax number, then pay through PayPerFax to send it. The steps depend on whether your assistant is connected to PayPerFax.

Your AI assistant prepares the fax. You check it and pay. Nothing is sent and nothing is charged before you pay.

1. If your assistant is not connected to PayPerFax

This is the most common case: you use ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini in your browser or in its app. Ask your AI assistant to draft the letter, then upload the document to PayPerFax.

  1. Ask for the letter. For example, a change-of-address notice to a servicer, a cover sheet for an IRS form, or a short authorization. Ask for the letter and the cover sheet together. Edit them with the assistant until they read the way you want.
  2. Download it as a file. Ask: “Give me this as a PDF I can download.” ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can give you a PDF, DOCX or Markdown file.
  3. Upload, check and pay. Go to fax.payperfax.com. Enter the fax number, upload the file, check the preview and the final price, and pay. PayPerFax accepts PDF, DOC, DOCX, JPG, PNG, TIFF and Markdown files up to 10 MB in total.

After you pay, you can ask the assistant to check the status. Paste the tracking link from your confirmation email into the chat, or copy the short prompt on the tracking page. If the assistant can read web pages, it can tell you the current status.

2. If your assistant is connected to PayPerFax

If your AI assistant is connected to PayPerFax, it can prepare the fax and give you a link to review and pay.

To connect it, add the PayPerFax MCP server once in your assistant’s connector settings. The address is https://fax.payperfax.com/mcp. There is no password and no key. Claude lets you add a custom connector. ChatGPT and the Gemini app offer custom connectors on some plans or in some countries.

Then ask in plain words, for example: “Prepare a fax of this letter to the clinic at this number.” Your assistant prepares the fax and gives you a link. Open it, check the preview and pay.

If you already have a file, such as a signed form or a scan, your assistant cannot upload it through the connector. It gives you a link to the fax form, filled in, where you add your file.

3. If your assistant can run commands on your computer

Claude Code, Codex and Cursor can run commands on your computer. These assistants can prepare the fax themselves. They can include a letter they wrote or a file from your computer. Then they give you a link to review and pay.

Sometimes you still need to sign or scan a page, for example an IRS Form 2848 or SS-4, or a bank authorization. The assistant can prepare the fax without that file. It gives you a link to the fax form, filled in, where you add your file. The form shows the note “Your AI assistant prepared this fax.”

Three things to check

These steps help with any AI assistant.

Give your assistant your email address. PayPerFax sends the confirmation there. The assistant does not know your address unless you tell it. Do not let it guess.

Check the fax number. An AI assistant can help you find a fax number. Before you pay, check it against your notice or the recipient’s official website. For the IRS, use your notice or irs.gov. For a bank, use its website or a letter it sent you. For a doctor’s office, use a bill or a form from the office.

Send a signed form as a file. The IRS and other agencies need the actual signed page, not a typed copy. This applies to a 2848, a power of attorney, a lease or a medical release. If the assistant tries to retype a signed form as text, stop it. Scan the signed page and upload it.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI assistant pay for the fax?

No. Your assistant prepares the fax and gives you a link. You check the preview with the exact price and pay with a card or PayPal. This step also keeps the service from being used for spam faxes.

Can an AI assistant send a fax from inside my email?

No. Sending a fax from an assistant in your email (such as Gemini in Gmail or Copilot in Outlook) is not supported.

Which assistants work with this?

Any AI assistant can help. If it is connected to PayPerFax or can run commands on your computer, it can prepare the fax and give you a link. If not, it can draft the letter for you to upload at fax.payperfax.com. The table at the top of this page shows each path.

Is it safe to let an assistant prepare a fax for me?

The assistant can only prepare the fax. It cannot pay, and nothing is sent until you pay. You open the preview link to check the document and the fax number before you pay. Documents are deleted from PayPerFax after 30 days. The full policy is on the security page.

How much does it cost?

The same as any other fax through PayPerFax: $2 for the first three pages (the optional cover page counts as one of them) and $0.75 for each page after that. The preview shows the final guaranteed price before you pay. A fax that fails to transmit is not charged.

What if the assistant gets the fax number wrong?

Check the number against your IRS notice, your bank statement, your doctor’s letter or the agency’s own website. The preview shows the number the fax will go to. Read it before you pay.
