Fax service for tax professionals. Pay per fax, not per month.

Built for CPAs, EAs, tax preparers, and taxpayers who fax the IRS a few times a year. Send Form SS-4, 2848, 8821, or a CP2000 response starting at $2 for three pages, with no account and no subscription that outlives filing season.

Built for tax work

The right price model for bursty, low-frequency fax work

Tax fax use spikes for a few weeks each year and then goes quiet. The industry sells monthly plans that keep charging you through November. We charge you $2 for the fax you actually sent. That is the whole difference.

No subscription. Nothing to cancel.

Pay one flat fee for the fax you send. No monthly minimum, no auto-renewal, no reminder to cancel after tax season ends.

Email confirmation, fax attached

Every fax is confirmed by an email, with the sent document attached, showing destination number, page count, date, time, and successful delivery. Save it with the client’s records for the standard three-year IRS audit window.

Encrypted upload, strict handling

Documents upload to us over TLS and are handled under a strict security policy.

No charge if the IRS line is busy

IRS fax lines get congested around deadlines. If your fax doesn’t go through, you don’t pay. Wait an hour and resend, no follow-up needed.

Simple

How it Works

1. Enter details and upload

Enter the destination fax number, your email address, and optionally compose a cover page. Attach one or more files in supported formats like PDF, DOC, or JPEG.

2. Preview and pay

Click “Preview fax & check price” to see how your fax will look and view the final cost. Proceed to payment using a credit card or PayPal once you’re satisfied with the preview.

3. Track and confirm

Monitor your fax’s progress on the tracking page. Once completed, you’ll receive a confirmation email with full details and a copy of your sent fax.

Which form, which number

The IRS routes faxes by form. Use the right number.

There is no single IRS fax number. Applications route to CAF units, notice responses route to whichever office your notice came from. If you have an IRS letter in front of you, the number on that letter always wins.

Form SS-4 (EIN application) routes to (855) 641-6935 for domestic applicants. New business, new EIN, or a client who needs one to open a bank account. Step-by-step: how to fax Form SS-4 for an EIN.

Form 2848 (Power of Attorney) and Form 8821 (Tax Information Authorization) route to the CAF unit for your client’s state of residence. Memphis for Eastern, Ogden for Western.

CP2000 notice responses route to the regional office printed on the notice itself. Do not guess. The regional CP2000 lines don’t forward.

Annual Form 1040? Not by fax. The IRS does not accept it. Use e-file or mail. Fax is reserved for applications, notice responses, and requested audit documentation.

Common questions from tax filers

Which IRS forms can I fax through PayPerFax?

Any form or document the IRS accepts by fax. Common ones are Form SS-4 (EIN), Form 2848 (Power of Attorney), Form 8821 (Tax Information Authorization), CP2000 notice responses, and requested audit documentation. Our IRS fax number directory lists the routing for each. The IRS does not accept Form 1040 by fax.

Do I need an account or a subscription?

No. You enter the destination fax number, upload your document, add an email to receive the confirmation, and pay. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing that renews. If you only fax the IRS twice a year, we are the right price shape for you.

How much does it cost to fax the IRS?

A domestic fax to the IRS is $2 for up to three pages (a cover sheet plus two document pages) and $0.75 for each additional page after that. You see the total before you confirm and pay, and you only pay if the fax goes through.

How do I know the IRS received my fax?

Your transmission confirmation email, with the sent fax attached as a PDF. The IRS itself does not send a received notice, by mail or otherwise, so the confirmation is the record you keep with the client’s file. It shows destination number, page count, date, time, and successful delivery. If a follow-up IRS notice ever claims you did not respond, that email plus its attachment is the record that ends the argument.

Can I fax Form SS-4 to get an EIN?

Yes. Domestic applicants fax Form SS-4 to (855) 641-6935 and the IRS faxes back your EIN cover sheet in about four business days. The step-by-step, including the international numbers and the return-fax-number caveat for online fax services, is on our how to fax Form SS-4 for an EIN page.

Can I fax my Form 1040?

No. The IRS does not accept annual Form 1040 returns by fax. Use e-file or mail the return to the address in the Form 1040 instructions for your state. Fax is reserved for specific notices, examinations, and applications like Form SS-4 that have their own fax channel.

Is this secure enough for tax documents?

Uploads and transmissions are TLS-encrypted, and we handle every document under a strict security policy. That is meaningfully more private than a shared office or copy-shop machine where a client’s SSN can sit on the receiving tray.

What if my fax to the IRS fails?

You do not pay. Re-check the fax number for typos first, since one wrong digit is the most common cause of failure. IRS lines also get congested around deadlines. Wait an hour and resend. If a hard filing deadline is looming and the line keeps failing, mail your response by USPS Certified Mail and keep the failed transmission emails with your records.

Can I include a cover sheet?

Yes, and for IRS work you should. Check the cover-page option at send time and fill in the client’s name, SSN or EIN, tax year, and the notice number you are responding to. The cover sheet is included in the first three pages, so there is no extra charge for adding one.

How long does the fax take to go through?

Most IRS faxes complete within a few minutes, and the confirmation email (with the sent fax attached) arrives immediately after. The IRS itself takes longer to process what you send. Form SS-4 replies come back in about four business days. CP2000 responses can take weeks. That is the IRS side, not the fax side.
